Egypt is your invitation to the

magical and mystical,

past and present.

 egypt_tourist_map

The mythical, the miraculous and the chaotic everyday.
In the 5th century BC Herodotus wrote of Egypt that ‘nowhere are there so many marvellous things…nor in the world besides are to be seen so many things of unspeakable greatness’ – and not too much has changed. The Sphinx, the Nile, ancient Luxor, the pyramids – Egypt’s scope is glorious.
It’s not just the Pharaonic monuments that have drawn travellers to this country since long before the birth of Christ – it’s the legacy of the Greeks, Romans and early Christians, and the profusion of art and architecture accumulated from centuries of successive Islamic dynasties.

The Best time to visit Egypt.

Everywhere south of Cairo is uncomfortably hot in the summer months (June-August), especially Luxor and Aswan where daytime temperatures soar up to 40°C (104°F).A scorching sun might be exactly what’s wanted for a week or two of slow roasting on the beaches of southern Sinai, the Alexandrian coast or the Red Sea – just be prepared to fight for hotel rooms.
March to May or September to November is the best time to enjoy the warm days without the crush of bodies on the beaches.

Most of Egypt’s religious and state holidays should not seriously disrupt any travel plans. Buses, though, may be fully booked around the two eids (Islamic feasts) and on Sham an-Nessim . Throughout Ramadan , the Muslim month of fasting, many cafes and restaurants are closed during the day, while bars cease business completely for the duration. Offices also operate at reduced and very erratic hours.

What to wear

Egypt is a conservative country and visitors should respect this attitude. No topless or nude bathing is permitted. On the practical side, leave your synthetics at home as they will prove to be too hot in summer and not warm enough during winter. Bring materials that breathe! It is advisable to wear cotton in summer as the heat can be like a furnace, as well as a hat to protect yourself from the scorching Egyptian sun. Even during winter the temperatures can be considerably warm, so wear layers that can removed during the day time and put back on for cool evenings. Wear loose and flowing garments, which are not only modest, but also practical in a hot climate. Have you ever wondered why the Bedouin wear layers of flowing robes? Why they cover their head and the back of their necks? Centuries of living in the desert have taught them that loose garments keeps one cooler and layered garments allow wind to enter and circulate, creating a natural ventilation system. Protecting the head and neck from loss of moisture prevents heat strokes.

Bring comfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking and temple floors are far from even.
